Technique

Each of my bullwhips is constructed with an 8, 10, or 12-inch steel handle foundation, a 24″ 6oz fall (white hide or oil tanned brown), and optional wrist loop. Common lengths for bullwhips are 5, 6, 8, and 10 ft, measured from the start of the handle to the end of the braid. Other lengths are available upon request.
My bullwhips are balanced to crack easily. They are constructed using the professional Australian method with two plaited bellies. The first belly is 4 plaits around a tapered and rolled leather core; this is followed by the second plaited belly is which is 8 plaits. Next comes a precision cut bolster around the 2nd belly. Just before braiding the overlay, I reinforce the handle-to-thong section with high tensile strength cotton thread around the bolster for added durability. All bellies are rolled between wood to achieve a more even roundness. After the overly is braided the whip is once again rolled between wood to form a more even roundness.
With all of my handcrafted whips I pay careful attention to detail. All strands are hand cut from the best parts of the hide, stretched, greased, and then braided to perfection.
